About

Located in the former Lundy’s building on a prime stretch of Emmons Avenue, this always-busy hibachi steakhouse appeals to starry-eyed patrons who gawk at speed-searing chefs and feed on dependable favorites like teriyakis and tempuras, plus the usual sushi-roll suspects. While the tricks may impress, the tossed-about steak is chewy, though its accompanying onion-leaning fried rice redeems it. Eating what’s for show isn’t the only option here, however. Sauteed yaki udon, arrives like an improved Japanese cousin of lo mein. It’s also hard to resist the “Special Roll for Special Customer” section of the menu—non-locals might feel the need to try the Sheepshead Bay roll with a non-native mix of octopus, shrimp, lettuce, squash, avocado, and mayo. To finish, red-bean ice cream here is not too sweet and very delicious. — Jill Weiskopf
